Being Zen
The Pause and the Breath
The Pause and the Breath
The breathe is vital, we can live without food for weeks, possibly months, without water for 3 days and without breathing for a matter of minutes.
In Ancient Greek; "breath" as in "a breath of air" or "divine breath of inspiration" can also mean "life", "spirit", and "vitality" as demonstrated in ancient medicine as well
as philosophical doctrines.
In Latin, nouns like anima and spiritus have similar properties, with the verb spiro meaning both "to breathe" and "to be alive".
In Sanskrit (and Hindi), similarly, the noun meaning "breath", prāṇa, also carries the meaning of "life", "spirit", "soul", etc.
In Hebrew, a word of comparable nature is rúach.
The "breath of life"
In speaking of breathing we use the word "Inspire" uniting the physical action of inhaling with its spiritual origin.
To Pause between all we do allows time for percolation from the prior activity before commencing the next
enabling a chance to learn and grow.
We would never read a book with no full stops or comma`s.
The Graceful Pause also allows us a chance to
refine our breathing.
When we chose to breath in such a way that calms and stills us we allow Divine inspiration to transform us;
we make a space for Grace to flow keeping us alive to,
and aware of the Divine relationship.
The Mantra is a short inspirational saying, it will be an even number of syllables so half are used on the in breath and
half on the outbreath. It could be a count of 4 x 4
`Holy Spirit
fill me with love`
or a count of 5 x 5
` Beloved Mother
Fill my heart with Love`
Using a Mantra helps focus on the breath and also gifts
the mind with its `default` thought for the day.
The Graceful Pause
The Graceful Pause
The Breath is vital to the body as the Pause is vital to the soul
so to unite them both in the Graceful Pause
is to bless your true self and
respect your inner Divinity.
To step gently into the Pause, using the Breath can be helpful in anchoring in the duration of the Pause; allowing your body, mind, heart and soul to realign opening to divine
transformation and inner growth.
The Graceful Pause
Find a comfortable space;
Inspire for the count of 4 or 5
Exhale for the count of 4 or 5
Repeat this slowing the inspiration and deepening the exhalation until you are surrendered to the rhythm.
Holding your mantra in mind helps to anchor breathing ie:
"Beloved Mother
Fill me with Grace"
Stay with the breathing as you integrate all
from your last encounter.
The Gentle Pause creates space for deep transformation opening to a deep acceptance of all change and growth.
Breathe...Surrender... Transform
